Rooftop guide · 3 min read

Is your rooftop ready for solar?

Five practical conversations to have before anyone starts drawing a panel layout.

General planning information. This guide is not a site design, electrical instruction, tariff notice or financial promise. Confirm site-specific details with qualified professionals.

Structure and waterproofing

A qualified assessment should consider the roof structure, mounting loads, wind exposure and waterproofing. Do not assume that available surface area is automatically suitable for panels.

Shading and access

Water tanks, nearby buildings and trees can cast shade that changes through the day and year. Keep safe walkways and maintenance access in the layout.

Electrical routing and protection

Cable routes, earthing, protection devices and isolation points need deliberate planning. Ask how these will be documented and checked at commissioning.

A realistic next step

Gather roof photographs and approximate dimensions for the first discussion. These help scope an assessment, but photographs cannot replace a site survey or structural and electrical checks.

Put the assumptions to work
